DSP is based in Smallville, and has a rich history of providing tax advising and preparation services, business accounting services, audits and reviews and general tax and accounting consulting to individuals, businesses, non-profi organizations and public entities across the area for 30 years.

In 1997, two established accounting and consulting firms — John Doe, CPA and John, CPA, along with John Public — merged to create Doe Smith & Public, LLC. In September 2004, John Smith retired from the firm.

Jane Public was admitted as a partner on January 1, 2010.

In 2016, DSP relocated to its new home at 1 Main Street, just north of the bustling New Market Square shopping district.

The firm undergoes a quality review as required by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants every three years. During the most recent quality review conducted in 2009, the firm received a "pass" rating, the highest reporting level allowed.

DSP is a member of the Smallville Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Governmental Audit Quality Center of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
