Apple's New Design May Be The End For Dongles
If you are one of the many, your biggest problem is probably the dongles. Or rather the lack of I/O ports, and your solution is getting a dongle. With some Macbooks offering only a single USB-C port, It’s not a surprise that the dongle market is exploding. Macbooks just don’t have enough ports. Apple has gone minimalistic with recent MacBook Pro models having minimal ports but you have to carry around additional dongles and adapters. Rumors have it that Apple has a solution to this for the next MacBook Pro models.
The 2021 editions of the MacBook Pros may be equipped with more types of I/O, and most users may not need to purchase additional dongles. It's unclear what ports may be added, but it may be a major focus for Apple for the line going forward. The 16-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch Intel based model may have up to four Thunderbolt 3 ports, while the MacBook Pro with M1 will continue to have just two. MacBook Pros may come with these ports, despite the fact that many other Apple devices use Lightning to connect.
The 2021 MacBook Pros may also bring back the SD card reader, in addition to removing the touch bar. The return of an SD card slot would be a major bonus for individuals who rely on removable storage. We could see these changes as early as the third quarter of this year.
Apple has remained silent about the rumors. But given the lack of access MacBook Pro laptops have without additional ports, it may be the reason for some looking to swap from PC to Mac but feel held back by the lack of connectivity options. Nothing has been confirmed just yet about the future MacBook Pro and we will have to wait and see if this rumor does come true.
