GeForce 1080 vs GeForce 1080ti
Nvidia's GeForce 1080 was released in May 2016 and replaced the GTX 980. It was seen by many to be a substantial step up in gaming performance. Sporting just over seven billion transistors. The Geforce 1080ti was release shortly after and offered faster ram and more of it. Even though both these cards have been surpassed by newer video cards, they are worth considering.
In terms of specs, the 1080ti gains speed in memory and more of it. The 1080 weighs in with 8GB of 224Gps while the 1080ti comes with 11GB of 484Gbs ram. When it comes to processors, the 1080 comes out ahead with 1607Mhz base as opposed to 1480Mhz for the 1080ti. Power the extra memory in the 1080ti requires 250W of power compared to the 1080's 180W power needs.
When it comes to gaming, the 1080ti bests the 1080 at 4k resolution across the board. For 1440 gaming, the 1080ti had a slight edge over the 1080 except for Assassin's Creed where the 1080 scored 65fps verses the 1080ti's 62fps. For BattleField 1, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite, the 1080ti has a slight edge in terms for frame rates in 1440. For 4k gaming, the 1080ti had at least 10 percent better frame rates compared to the 1080.
The 1080ti costs about $100 more than the 1080 and consumes more power. The 1080ti is also noise than the 1080. When measuring performance per watt, the 1080 edges out over the 1080ti with a GPUBoss rating of 8.8 verses 8.0. Overall GPUBoss noise and power ratings, the 1080 gets the higher score with a 8.5 rating as opposed to a 7.9 rating for the 1080ti.
The NVIDIA GTX 1080 is a great graphics card for 1440p and some light 4K gaming. The GTX 1080 Ti is a more expensive version of the same card with more memory, bandwidth, and other improvements to push even more pixels through to connected monitors. The question is which is best for you? This depends on a number of factors, including what games you play, what resolution you game at, and your available budget.
